Hair replacement therapy describes a surgical procedure where hair follicles are taken from the areas of a patients scalp where healthy hair is growing and transplanting these hair plugs to an area where the hairline is receding or there is baldness. Usually referred to as male pattern baldness, these areas of the scalp without hair appear when the body attacks hair follicles and prevents them from producing new hair when old hair falls out. During the procedure at an outpatient medical facility, the surgeon places the patient under local anesthesia to relax them and make them comfortable. There are two methods that may be used to gather the hair follicles that will then be transplanted.
